3 Earn Trip to Shinnecock

JUPITER - 48 players arrived Monday morning with aspirations of heading to the 118th U.S. Open Championship. After 36 holes, two players sealed their tickets, while six others would head to a play-off for the final spot.

Luis Gagne posted rounds of 68-70--138 (-6) to earn medalist honors. Gagne, a rising junior at LSU, and past Florida Junior Tour member will play in his 1st U.S. Open and 5th USGA Championship after appearing in the U.S. Junior in 2013 & 2014, and U.S. Amateur in 2016 & 2017.

Richy Werenski posted a four-under par total to come in 2nd and earn his spot in the U.S. Open. The Bear's Club member and Georgia Tech alum is in his 2nd season on the PGA Tour.

Tyler Strafaci, 2014 FSGA Boys' Junior Champion, who just finished his sophomore year at Georgia Tech, would birdie the 1st play-off hole, to match Nathan Stamey's birdie and advance to the second hole. On two, Strafaci would convert a two-putt par, and after Stamey missed, Strafaci earned his ticket to Shinnecock Hills.

Nathan Stamey would earn First Alternate status, while Cristian DiMarco earned the Second Alternate honors.

Christo Greyling, Canon Claycomb and Andy Zhang all posted 141 (-3) along with Strafaci, Stamey & DiMarco but failed to earn status in the play-off.
