Girls' Junior Headed to Vero Beach

June 20, 2018

The 2018 Girls' Junior Amateur Championship, to be contested at Bent Pine Golf Club, is looking at a field of 130 of the top juniors in the state. The Girls' Junior is one of the most prestigious Championships hosted in the state for top ranked junior players. The event will be contested over 54 holes of individual stroke play with a cut to the low 70 players and ties after 36 holes. There will be two divisions, a Junior Division for players 13-15 years old and the Regular Division for players 16-18 years old. Previous winners to have hoisted the trophy include tour professionals Vicky Hurst, Brittany Lincicome, Christie Kerr and current world number one InBee Park. This year's championship will be played over two courses, Bent Pine Golf Club and Vero Beach Country Club beginning Wednesday, June 27th.

This year's field holds some strong competitors from all around the state. Last year's champion of the 16-18 division, Jenny Kim, who won in a sudden death play-off against the 2016 Girls' Champion Alyssa Lamoureux, is back to defend her title and see if she can be the first player to win back to back titles since 2000. Karoline Tuttle will also be eyeing the trophy next week. Tuttle just came off a stellar week at the Women's Amateur Championship, hosted by The Falls Club, after finishing Runner-Up. Tuttle finished 8th in last year's Girls' Junior Championship. In addition, Tuttle was recently selected to represent Team Florida in the Southeastern Challenge Match along with another Girls' Junior competitor, Chloe Schiavone.

Live scoring will begin Wednesday, June 27th and can be found on fsga.org.
