OCALA, Fla. – Chloe Schiavone and Ariel Yu sit atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Women’s Four-Ball Championship. The duo, who captured the championship in 2018, posted a 10-under 62 on Saturday to take a six-stroke lead over the field.
Schiavone and Yu played a bogey-free front nine, shooting under-par on eight holes. The two junior golfers finished the day with eight birdies, one bogey and an eagle on the par-5 third hole.
Two teams are tied for second after the first round at 6-under 66. Amelia Williams and Tori Mouton finished the round with five birdies, while Mouton eagled the par-4 second hole. Karoline Tuttle and Madison Hewlett recorded a bogey-free round with six birdies. Both teams sit four stroke behind the leaders.
Meghan Stasi and Noelle Maertz are tied for fourth place with Laura Carson and Tara Joy-Connelly following the first round. Stasi recorded four birdies for the team, while Maertz carded one. Carson and Joy-Connelly posted a bogey-free round, with Joy-Connelly carded four birdies.
Twelve teams shot under-par rounds at Stone Creek Golf Club.
Nicola de Stwolinska and Mary Kozak are tied at the top of the middle division leaderboard with Beth Sholar and Nancy Markey, after a first-round 2-over 74. Tammy Blyth and Kathleen Colliflower lead the middle first division, while Susan Macina and Cynthia Binkley are in first in the forward.
