TAMPA, Fla. – The 12-player roster for the Florida Team for the 17th Southeastern Challenge Match is now finalized. Eight amateurs and four senior amateurs were selected on Monday to represent the state of Florida. The team will meet Alabama and Georgia at Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Ga. on October 20-21.
The 12 players announced today by the FSGA are: Joe Alfieri, Jordan Batchelor, Chip Brooke, Steve Carter, Daniel Debra, Marc Dull, Mike Finster, Devon Hopkins, Jimmy Jones, Scott Turner, Don Whittemore and Pete Williams.
The Southeastern Challenge is a tri-state biennial competition between Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The Match is played over two days with four-ball, foursome and three-ball matches. Florida holds the most overall team victories with eight, while Georgia holds seven and one for Alabama.
The Sunshine State will look to reclaim the Southeastern Challenge trophy following a Georgia win at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter in 2017. Prior to Georgia most recent win, Florida had captured four-straight Southeastern Challenge victories.
The men’s Southeast Challenge Match debuted at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, in 1989 as an event intended to promote goodwill and competition between the best amateur players, playing as a team, from Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
