Two FJT Alums Named to Palmer Cup Team

March 31, 2020

TAMPA, Fla. – Two Florida Junior Tour alumni were selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup, as both the International and United States teams were announced on Friday. Meghan Schofill and Latanna Stone were named the United States team.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is slated for July 3-5 at Lahinch Golf Club, but in these unprecedented times the matches may be held as scheduled, postponed, or canceled. The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) addressed the issue in a press release.

“With the pandemic affecting so many lives around the globe, there are certainly more pressing issues than golf. However, we would like to recognize the accomplishments of these college golfers since last summer and during this college season,” said in a press release on Friday.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men's and women's college golfers matching the United States against a team of international players.

Schofill was named to her first Arnold Palmer Cup team, after receiving a committee selection. The Monticello native collected 11 top-five finishes and one win while competing on the Florida Junior Tour.

Last year, Schofill earned medalist honors at the 90th Florida Women’s Amateur Championship, before advancing to the Round of 16. She also reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

A freshman at Auburn University, Schofill picked up four top-10 finishes in her first season as a Tiger, including her first collegiate victory at the Lake Oconee Invitational in February.

Stone was also named to her first Arnold Palmer Cup team, as a women’s Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking selection. She won the 13-15 Division at the 2017 Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship and earned 11 FJT wins in her junior career.

The Riverview native qualified for the 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship, while also competing in the 2012, 2014 and 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur.

In her freshman season at Louisiana State University, Stone recorded three top-10 finishes, while finishing the season ranked No. 38 in NCAA Division I and posted a 72.56 scoring average, ranking fifth on the LSU single season record list.
