Three Lead at Florida Women’s Open

What Happened

Following the first round of play at the Florida Women’s Open & Senior Open Championship, three players sat at the top of the leaderboard. Katie Yoo and Bailey Shoemaker finished the day in a tie for first place in the Open Division, while Michelle McGann holds the solo lead in the Senior Division.

In total, 155 players teed it up on Friday at Bradenton Country Club and Lakewood National Golf Club. 

Yoo and Shoemaker fired a 5-under 66 in the first round at Bradenton CC, both players finishing the day bogey-free. After a 2-under on the front nine, Yoo birdied three of four holes on the back nine to take a share of the first-round lead.

After saving par on the first hole, Shoemaker settled in and birdied back-to-back holes on the fourth and fifth holes. The Dade City resident had strong finish to the round, birding three of the final four holes.

McGann took the lead in the Senior Division with a first-round 68. After beginning the day with bogey on the first, the North Palm Beach resident closed out her front nine by birding five of the six final holes, including four-straight holes. She finished the day with an even-par back nine to hold a two-shot lead heading into the second round.

Notable

Emmy Martin, the 2019 Women’s Amateur champion, aced the par-3 sixth hole at Lakewood National Golf Club.

Seventy-seven players teed it up at Bradenton Country Club, while 78 players played at Quail Ridge

A total of 10 players posted under-par rounds in the first round.

The field will be cut to low 60 players and ties after Saturday’s round.

Defending champion, Jessica Porvasnik posted a first-round 77 at Bradenton Country Club.
