Shoemaker, Yoo & McGann Take 36-Hole Lead

WHAT HAPPENED

Tomorrow’s final round of the Florida Women’s Open and Senior Open is sure to be an exciting one. Bailey Shoemaker, Katie Yoo and Michelle McGann took the 36-hole lead after the second round at Bradenton Country Club and Lakewood National Golf Club.

Shoemaker and Yoo share the lead in the Open Division at 7-under 136, while McGann holds the lead in the Senior Division at 3-under 140.

Shoemaker began the day with a bogey-free front nine, carding two birdies to move into solo first place. She finished the day with an even-par back nine, carding a second-round 70.

Yoo started the second round by birding two of her first four holes, but closed out her front nine with her first bogey of the championship. She used two birdies on the back nine to pull back into a tie for first with Shoemaker.

McGann struggled on the front nine, carding a bogey and a double bogey, but turned the day around with a strong back nine. She posted three birdies on the back nine to finish the day at 1-over 72 and  take a three-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

NOTABLE

Defending champion, Jessica Porvasnik, shot the low round of the day (6-under 66) to jump into a tie for 12th place at even-par 143.

Shoemaker will look to become the first amateur to win the Women’s Open title and capture her second-straight FSGA championship, after winning the Women’s Four-Ball Championship last weekend.

Twenty-three players posted under-par rounds on Saturday in the Open Division.

The 2017 champion, Sandra Changkija, used a second-round 68 to move into a tie for fourth place at 3-under 140 heading into the final round.

Twenty-four amateurs made the cut in the Open Division, while nine amateur made the cut in the Senior Division.

A total of 46 players made the cut in the Open Division at 5-over on Saturday, while 18 players made the cut in the Senior Division at 17-over.
