Three Teams Crowned at Senior Four-Ball

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. Three teams were crowned Senior Four-Ball champions on Wednesday at The Amelia Island Club at Long Point. Mike Vallencourt and Brian Tennyson came out on top in the Championship Division, while Robert Cunningham and Ronald Cornette were victorious in the Super-Senior Division. In the Legends Division, Pete Andrews and Skip Lujack took home the trophy.

Championship Division

Vallencourt and Tennyson fired back-to-back rounds of 65 to earn the three-shot victory in the Championship Division at 14-under 130. They sat in a three-way tie for first place after the first round on Tuesday.

The duo started the final round strong, birdieing four of the first six hole to start the day. Vallencourt and Tennyson made the turn at 4 under for the day and continued their strong play on the back side. They birdied three-straight holes and finished the final round with a birdie on the 18th to secure the win.

Brian Keenan and Paul Royak finished second at 11-under 133, posting rounds of 66-67 for the championship. Don Whittemore and Pete Williams finished one-shot back in third place at 10-under 134, putting together two rounds of 67. 

Super-Senior Division

Cunningham and Cornette used a bogey-free championship to win the Super-Senior Division at 11-under 133. They took the 18-hole lead with a first-round 65 on Tuesday to sit four-shots ahead of the field.

The pair continued their strong play in Wednesday’s final round, birdieing two of the first four hole. They added another birdie on the front nine to make the turn at 3 under for the day. They captured the four-shot victory with a bogey-free back nine to card a final-round 68.

Bobby Lundquist and Jerry Young finished runner up at 7-under 137. Young eagled the final hole of the championship to propel the duo into second place, finishing the week with a 6-under 66 in the final round. Robert Hess and Jim Byington took third place at 6-under 140, posting rounds of 72-66 for the tournament.

Legends Division

A birdie on the 35th hole of the championship gave Andrews and Lujack the win in the Legends Division at 5-under 139. The duo sat one shot back of the leaders after shooting a 2-under 70 in the first round.

Andrews and Lujack began the final round with a bogey-free front nine, posting two birdies. They finished the championship with a 1-under back nine, birdieing the 17th hole to secure the victory.

Earl Daniell and Fred Gross took home a second-place finish at 4-under 140, posting two bogey-free rounds of 70. Jim Stone and Kim Schwencke finished third at 3-under 141 with rounds of 69-72.
