Four Champions Crowned at Men's Net

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.Kris Vassallo, Michael Volcan, David Bailey and Ron Bauman raised the trophies at the Men's Net Championship on Sunday at Mission Inn Resort & Club. Vassallo was victorious in the Under 50 Division, while Volcan prevailed in the 50-59 Division. Bailey came out on top in the 60-69 Division, and Bauman took home the win in the 70 & Over Division.

Under 50 Division

Vassallo captured his second-straight Men’s Net Championship in wire-to-wire fashion. He took a share of the 18-hole lead after a first-round 74 on Saturday, with two net birdies and a gross birdie.

The Bradenton native used the only under-par round of the championship in the final round to secure the victory. Vassallo carded three net birdies and two gross birdies on Sunday to post a 1-under 71 and take home the three-shot win.

David Mealey put together two rounds of 74 to finish second at 4-over 148, while John Walters finished in third at 5-over 149, adding a net eagle in the final round.

50-59 Division

Volcan earned his second Men’s Net Championship victory, after winning the 50-64 Division in 2018. The Stuart native finished Saturday’s first round in a tie for first place at 2-over 74, finishing the day with two net birdies. He secured the win on Sunday with a 2-over 74, adding five net birdies in the final round.

Deon du Plessis finished second at 9-over 153, while Graham Tomlinson finished one shot back at 10-over 154.

60-69 Division

David Bailey picked up his first FSGA championship win with a 3-under 141 for the championship. After a first-round 73, Bailey sat one shot back of the leader, Ivan Marin. The New Smyrna Beach used seven gross birdies in the final round to fire a 68 to capture the win.

Marin finished second at 4-over 148, while Guillermo Duenas finished one shot back at 5-over 149 in third place.

70 & Over Division

Bauman went wire-to-wire to earn his second-straight Men’s Net Championship win at 2-over 146. The Clermont native used a first-round 67 to take a five-shot lead into Sunday’s final round. He secured the win a final-round 79.

Rick Page took home second palce at 5-over 149, while Donald Tarca finished third at 11-over 155.
