Tyler and Huber Go Wire-to-Wire at FJT Major

GAINESVILLE, Fla.Battling the cold weather throughout the tournament, it was Tommy Tyler and Katelyn Huber who came out on top at the Florida Junior Tour Major on Monday at Mark Bostick Golf Course. This was the second FJT win for Tyler and the sixth for Huber.  

Boys 13-15 Division

Tyler captured the win with a 4-over 214 for the three-day tournament. He put together rounds of 70-69 to begin the tournament and take a five-shot lead into the final round at 1-under 139.

The Venice native started the final round with a 3-over front side. He closed out the tournament with a 2-over back nine, adding two birdies. Tyler secured the three-shot victory with a final-round 75. His second-round 69 was one of only two under-par scores in the Boys Division.  

Beni Long used rounds of 73-71-73 to take second place at 7-over 217, while Phillip Dunham finished third at 9-over 219. James Hassell used the low round of Monday (70) to grab a fourth-place finish at 10-under 220.

Kelvin Hernandez and Shawn Coultoff shared fifth place at 12-over 222, with Hernandez carded the low round of the tournament on Sunday, 3-under 67. Jackson Kantowski, who finished the tournament in 13th place, aced the par-3 sixth hole in Saturday’s first round.

Girls 13-15 Division

Huber picked up her sixth FJT win in dominating fashion, taking home the 16-shot victory at 9-over 219. She held a nine-stroke lead over the field after the second round at 6-over 146, after posting rounds of 72-74 to start the tournament.

The Gainesville native posted an even-par on the front nine, birdieing the 14th. Huber finished the day with a 3-over on the back side. She carded a 3-over 73 in the final round, the low round of the day, to capture the win.

Sabrina Dami took home a second-place finish at 25-over 235, while Mei Chan finished third with a 27-over 237. Kasey McIlvaine and Morgan Pichler finished tied for fourth at 29-over 239.
