Strafaci Makes Pro Debut at AT&T Byron Nelson

May 13, 2021

MCKINNEY, Texas – Tyler Strafaci, a Florida Junior Tour alumni and the 2020 U.S. Amateur champion, will make his professional debut this week at the AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch.

Strafaci makes his pro debut just days after being a part of the winning United State team at the 40th Walker Cup. While the week ended with a victory for the U.S., it was a tough week for Strafaci as he was one of the players who battled a nasty stomach virus at Seminole Golf Club.

Although still recovering as he prepares for his pro debut, Strafaci is ready to make the most of his first professional start.

“It’s one of those things that if I play well, hopefully, I get some more opportunities. And if I don’t, just Monday qualify and try to get on that way,” Strafaci said in a Golf Channel article. “So it’s all out in front of me if I play well, and it’s a great opportunity.”

The former Georgia Tech standout has a busy summer ahead, with starts at Colonial, Memorial and the U.S. Open after this weeks’ Byron Nelson. When he tees it up in Texas this week, it will be his fourth start of the year on tour, after competing at the Masters, Genesis Invitational and Farmers Insurance Open.

Strafaci began playing in FSGA events at the age of six, winning the Parent-Child Championship twice with his father, a past FSGA president. He went on to win the Florida Boys’ Junior Championship, Florida Junior Match Play Championship and five Florida Junior Tour events.

The Davie native raised the trophy at the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship in August. He also added wins at the North & South Amateur and the Palmetto Amateur in July. After his tremendous 2020 season, Strafaci was named the 2020 FSGA Men’s Amateur Player of the Year.
