Four Player Remain at Women’s Amateur

What Happened

The 92nd Women’s Amateur Championship field has been whittled down to four players after the Round of 16 and Quarterfinal matches on Saturday at Hammock Dunes Club in Palm Coast.

Kendall Griffin will take on Carla Alavarez Perezin for a spot in the Final, while Bianco Sol Cruz and Elle Nachmann will face each other in the morning.

Griffin advanced to the semifinals, taking down No. 64 seed Brook Oberparleiter, 4 and 2, in the morning. She then battled against Auston Kim, defeating the Vanderbilt senior, 1 up.

Alvarez Perez defeated Mindy Herrick, 2 and 1, in the Round of 16 matches, before taking on the regining Junior Player of the Year, Karoline Tuttle in the Quarterfinals. It took all 18 holes, but Alvarez Perez overcame Tuttle, 1 up.

Sol Cruz defeated Maisie Filler in the morning match, 1 up. In the Quarterfinals, Sol Cruz took a commanding win over Jamie Freedman, 4 and 3.

Nachmann didn't let a match get to the 18th hole, defeating Amelia Williams, 4 and 3, and Morgan Baxendale, 2 and 1. 

Notable

Griffin will look to capture her third FSGA championship, after capture the Girls’ Junior title in 2013 and the Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2019.

Four different colleges are represented in the Semifinals matches: Griffin (LSU graduate - Transfering to University of Louisville in the fall), Alvarez Perez (incoming freshman at Rollins College), Sol Cruz (Stetson University), Nachmann (University of Pennsylvania).

Kim and Jordan Fischer it out in the longest match of the championship, with Kim coming out on top in 25 holes.

Alvarez Perez is competing in her second Women’s Amateur championship and her first in match-play format, after last year was played in stroke play due to Covid-19.
