Biondi and Youprayong Lead at 12 Under

June 26, 2021

What Happened

After 54 holes at Streamsong Resort, two players are tied at the top of the 104th Amateur Championship leaderboard. Runchanapong Youprayong and Fred Biondi finished the third round in a tie at the top at 12-under 204.

Youprayong posted the round of the championship with a 7-under 65. He got off to a quick start in the third round going birdie-eagle to start the day. The University of South Florida junior added two more birdies to make the turn at 5 under.

He continued his strong play with birdies on the 13th and 14th and finished the day bogey free to take a share of the lead.

Like Youprayong, Biondi also got off to a hot start, birdieing five of his first seven holes. He ran into a little trouble with bogeys on the eighth and 10th, but quickly turned it around with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th.

The University of Florida junior hit it left on the par-4 18th hole and had to lay his second shot up to 80 yards. He hit his wedge to three feet and tapped it in for par to finish with a 6-under 66 and tied at the top.

Four players sit in a tie for third at 7-under 209: Nathan Bertsch, Jake Beber-Frankel, Michael Mays and Marc Dull. Bertsch and Beber-Frankel both fired a third-round 68, while Mays finished with a 3-under 69.

Notable

Biondi is looking to capture his fourth FSGA title to add to his titles at the 2016, 2017 Boys’ Junior and the 2020 Amateur Public Links.

Fourteen eagles were carded today on the Blue Course at Streamsong.

The 11th hole on the Blue Course played the hardest in the third round.

Nine players sit within six shots of the lead heading into the final round on Sunday.

Quotable

"I got off to a really good start with a birdie on the drivable par-4 and then made an eagle on the next par-5. Things started to get going, rolled a couple putts in and made a birdie on 9. It was a pretty solid start." - Youprayong on his third-round 65

“I had a little bit of a slow middle of the round but came back with a couple of birdies to finish it out. I think the best part was finishing with the par on the 18th. From 80 yards, I hit a good wedge shot in there to a foot and was stress free." – Biondi on his second nine

“I'm just going to go out there and play my game. Try and hit a lot of quality shots and make putts, that’s all I need to do, just keep my mind right." – Biondi on his mindset heading into the final round

"Just play my game and stick to my game plan, hit fairways, hit greens, and stay hydrated. Just do my best. " – Youprayong on what he need to do to win
