Kline & Yang Win at Amelia National

February 10, 2013

Jacob Kline of St. Augustine came from behind in the final round to bolster his already impressive Florida Junior Tour resume. Kline's victory is his third in his last five starts along with a second place finish at the Tour Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Kline entered the final round five strokes behind Juan Santos after the Lake Mary native fired a first round 67 including 4 birdies and an eagle. Kline then caught fire on Sunday making birdies on holes 1, 6, 9, 10 and 18 to go along with an eagle on hole 15. Santos struggled to get anything going in the final round and finished with a 77 which left him in a tie for 2nd place with Matt Young of Tallahassee.

In the Girls Division, Athena Yang of Winter Haven celebrated her 15th birthday in style with a playoff victory or Jamie Freedman of Miami. Freedman who trailed by one going into the final round caught up quickly with a birdie on hole 10 (her first of the day). Yang ended up with 76 while Freedman carded a 75 leaving them tied at 149 and sending them into a sudden death playoff. Yang hit a perfect drive on the difficult 18th hole while Freedman's tee shot found the right fairway bunker. Yang played safely onto the green while Freedman hit an impressive shot just in front of the putting surface. However, Freedman failed to get up and down while Yang two putted for the victory. Happy birthday indeed!
