The three-day FJT Major at Harmony Preserve wrapped up today with three different winners.
Anna Newell made a final day comeback after trailing Jamie Freedman by two stroke in the Girls 16-18 age division. Newell fired a final-day one-under 35 on her front side. While Freedman made some costly bogies on the front side, which gave Newell a one-stroke lead at the turn. With 8 steady pars on her final nine, Newell was able to hold onto the lead, shooting a three-day total of 218.
In the Boys 13-15 age division, Spenser Slayden was able to capture his first FJT victory. Slayden’s first round of 67 gave him a three-stroke lead over Brock Ochsenreiter’s 70. Slayden continued his steady play during round two shooting a one-under 71. With a five-stroke lead going into the final round, Slayden shot an even-par 72 for a three-day total of 210. Spenser’s 210 was good enough to give him a five-stroke win over Tyler Strafaci.
Haydyn Gibson was able grab the win in the Girls’ 13-15 age division. Going into the final round, Gibson trailed Kendall Griffin by four strokes. Gibson came out hot on her front nine birding three holes and carding a 34. Griffin struggled with some early bogies on her front side and lost the lead at the turn. Gibson held onto the lead during her back nine where she shot a 38, for a final round score of 72. Gibson’s three-day total of 220 gave her a one-stroke victory over Griffin. This is Haydyn’s first FJT win.
Harmony Golf Preserve is hosting the Junior Match Play Championship for the Boys 13-15 and Girls 13-18 age divisions in late July this summer.
