Three Win at Harmony Preserve

May 27, 2013

The three-day FJT Major at Harmony Preserve wrapped up today with three different winners.

Anna Newell made a final day comeback after trailing Jamie Freedman by two stroke in the Girls 16-18 age division.   Newell fired a final-day one-under 35 on her front side.  While Freedman made some costly bogies on the front side, which gave Newell a one-stroke lead at the turn.  With 8 steady pars on her final nine, Newell was able to hold onto the lead, shooting a three-day total of 218.

In the Boys 13-15 age division, Spenser Slayden was able to capture his first FJT victory.  Slayden’s first round of 67 gave him a three-stroke lead over Brock Ochsenreiter’s 70.  Slayden continued his steady play during round two shooting a one-under 71.  With a five-stroke lead going into the final round, Slayden shot an even-par 72 for a three-day total of 210.  Spenser’s 210 was good enough to give him a five-stroke win over Tyler Strafaci.

Haydyn Gibson was able grab the win in the Girls’ 13-15 age division.  Going into the final round, Gibson trailed Kendall Griffin by four strokes.  Gibson came out hot on her front nine birding three holes and carding a 34.  Griffin struggled with some early bogies on her front side and lost the lead at the turn.  Gibson held onto the lead during her back nine where she shot a 38, for a final round score of 72.  Gibson’s three-day total of 220 gave her a one-stroke victory over Griffin.  This is Haydyn’s first FJT win.

Harmony Golf Preserve is hosting the Junior Match Play Championship for the Boys 13-15 and Girls 13-18 age divisions in late July this summer.
