Southeastern Challenge Team Selected

The Florida team for the 2013 Southeastern Challenge Match, a tri-state biennial competition between Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, has been selected. This year's matches will be held at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee, Eastonton, Georgia. The format is a Ryder-Cup style competition with four-ball, foursome and three-ball individual matches.

Each state's team consists of 12 players: two players 55 years of age and older, two players 50 years of age and older, seven players 25 years of age and older, and one player 21 years of age and older. Rick Woulfe and Doug LaCrosse will be representing the 55+ division while Gordon Marshall and Jimmy Jones will be playing in the 50+ division. Don Bell, Doug Snoap, Dan Debra, Don Whittemore, Thad Hudgens, Jeronimo Esteve, and Nick Gilliam will be representing the 25+ division, and Michael Smith will be playing in the 21+ division.

The veteran team consists of three defending champions from the 2010 team (pictured right), including Don Bell, 2013 Mid-Senior Champion, 2012 Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Champion and 2-time USGA State Team Member, Doug Snoap, USGA State Team Member, and Rick Woulfe, 7-time Senior Player of the Year and 3-time Player of the Year.

Other notable members include Doug LaCrosee, 3-time Player of the Year, 2013 Senior Amateur Champion and 2013 Senior Amateur Match Play Champion and Nick Gilliam, 2001 NCAA Individual Champion. Dan Debra and Don Whittemore, who will be making their first appearance on Florida's state team as partners, captured the 2012 Four-Ball Championship title, finished second in the 2013 Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship and tied for third in the 2013 Four-Ball Championship.

Florida's defending champion team hopes to keep the trophy in the Sunshine State when they travel to Georgia on October 19-20th.
