Matin Couple Wins Mixed-Team Shootout

October 6, 2013

After a great weekend of golf and weather, the husband and wife team of Sarah and Matthew Matin, of Orlando, followed up their first round 69, with yet another 2 under par 69 to win the Mixed-Team Shootout at Kensington Golf Club in Naples, October 6-7.

The Matin duo finished at four under par, 138 total, to narrowly edge out the team of Megan Kiley and Colin Smith, by only one shot in the Championship Division.  Kiley and Smith rallied on Sunday trying to make a comeback, shooting a 4 under par 67 to put them just one shot shy at 139.  The Matin team had four birdies in their final round, on holes 4, 9, 12 and 16.  Perhaps a natural to four-ball, Sarah Matin also recently won the Florida Women’s Four-Ball Championship with Brandi Rodriguez at LPGA International.  Following in third place was the sibling team of Charlotte Daughan and Robert Campbell with a two-day total of 141.  The team of Susie Fonde and Gary Blackwell took home the low net prize, with rounds of 68-68-136.

In the Forward Division, Rosemarie and William Connors made up the three shot deficit they had heading into Sunday’s round.  Shooting a one-over-par 72 on Sunday, the Connors team won the Forward Division by two shots over the team of Nicola and Douglas de Stwolinska with a two-day total of 147. The de Stwonlinska team did however take home first place net with rounds of 65-60-125.

The format of the Mixed-Team Shootout was Four-Ball Stroke Play the first day of competition and Modified Alternate Shot the second day of competition.
