Eight Will Return Tuesday

Eight of the top women amateur golfers have advanced to the quarterfinal matches in the 85th Women’s Amateur Championship at Sara Bay Country Club.

The co-medalist, Tara Connelly of Palm Beach Gardens, continued her strong play during Monday morning's Round of 32 match against Coral Spring's Maria Marino where she won 4 & 3. Connelly continued the momentum  into her Round of 16 afternoon match against Jamie Freedman of Miami.  Connelly will face 10-seed Katie Mitchell, of Fernandina Beach, in Tuesday morning's quarterfinal matches.

2013 Women’s Amateur quarterfinalist, Emma Albrecht of Ormond Beach, used her experience in her morning Round of 32 match against past champion and four-time US Women's Mid-Amateur champion, Meghan Stasi of Oakland Park.  Albrecht was able to battle back from a deficit to make the match go extra holes, where she eventually won on the 20th hole. Albrecht was defeated in the afternoon match by Katie Mitchell who will play Connelly, the co-medalist, Tuesday morning.

Charlotte Daughan, of Orlando, liked to keep it interesting in her Monday morning match against Alex Milan, of Lutz.  Daughan was at one point 3-up, but Milan came back and the match was extended to 21 holes. Daughan defeated Alyssa Lamoureux, of Seminole, 3 & 2 to advance to  Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Quarterfinal matches will commence on Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM.  Semi-final matches will follow on Tuesday afternoon to determine who will play for the title of the 85th Women’s Amateur champion on Wednesday morning.
