#1 Seeds Fall at Junior Match Play

After 36-holes of stroke play the Junior Match Play Championship fields were reduced to match play brackets. The low 32 scores made match play in the Boys 16-18 age division, the low 16 scores made match play in the Boys 13-15 age division, and the low 8 scores made match play in the Girls 13-18 age division.

The boys 16-18 division is playing at The Oaks Club south of Sarasota and Charles Wang took co-medalist honors along with Morgan Hobbs and Kyle Kidd. Wang was randomly awarded the #1 seed and took on the 32nd seed, Chandler Blanchet, Thursday afternoon. The duo was all square after 18 holes and eventually Blanchet won on the 21st hole.

The boys 13-15 age division is playing at the IMG Academy Golf Club in Bradenton. Antony Wells, of Plantation, took medalist honors after a shooting 67-73--140. Kritsarin Oukosavanna, of Boca Raton, earned the final spot in the match play play bracket with a 36-hole total of 157. Wells and Oukosavanna would face off Thursday afternoon in the first round of matches and Oukosavanna prevailed with a 1up victory. 

Alberto Martinez, of Weston, who recently finished 2nd at the Florida Boys' Junior Championship earned the 2nd seed after rounds of 70-71. Martinez, a favorite to win his first championship, took on the 15th seed Chris Kern, of Tampa. The match as all square after 18 holes and because of rain delays earlier in the day the sun was already setting. Well after 8:00 PM the duo made birdies on the 22nd hole and the made their way through the darkness to the 23rd hole. With the match about to be suspended for darkness, Kern prevailed and knocked off the #2 see Martinez on the 23rd hole.

The Girls 13-18 age division is also playing at the IMG Academy Golf Club and they begin match play Friday morning. After 36-holes of stroke play Alyssa Lamoureux, of Seminole took medalist honors with rounds of 72-75. Brittany Shin, of Cape Coral, is the #2 seed after rounds of 77-76.
