June 27, 2015

Cristobal Del Solar jumps up the leaderboard, taking a one-stroke lead into the final round of play in the 98th Florida State Amateur Championship at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club. The Championship concludes with the final round on Sunday, June 28.

After 54-holes of play, Cristobal Del Solar, of Tallahassee, stands alone atop the leaderboard with a total of 206. Del Solar would trail the leader by one stroke entering his round on Saturday. Teeing off in the second to last group, Del Solar played an impressive front-nine. With four  birdies on holes two, four, five, and seven, Cristobal vaulted up the leaderboard to nine under-par. Jimmy Jones, of Tampa, scored even par, 36, on the front-nine and moved to second place at six under-par. On hole number twelve, Jones made an eagle while Del Solar parred to narrow the gap to a two shot lead heading into a stretch of tough holes. Jones fired a birdie on hole 14 to continue to chase Del Solar’s early lead. Cristobal dropped a stroke with a bogey on hole 17 and after a par from Jimmy they would enter the 18th hole tied for the lead at nine under-par.  On the last hole Cristobal pulled ahead with a birdie followed by Jimmy’s two-putt for par.

Earlier this year at the U.S. Open Sectional, Cristobal lost in a play-off against Sam Horsfield to miss advancing to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay. Cristobal Del Solar heads into the final round of the Amateur with a one-stroke lead and is ready for the competition tomorrow. He finished with a 67 for a tournament total ten under-par and contributed his stellar playing to his putter. He said the golf course is in “perfect condition” and looks forward to playing in the final group tomorrow with Jimmy Jones, who finished in second alone at nine under-par. Chandler Blanchet, of Ganiesville, sits in third place with a round three score of 70, tournament total 211. There is a three-way tie for fourth place between Travis Trace, Jake Kevorkian, and Ryan Orr at two under-par, 214.
