May 2, 2004

The Ponte Vedra team of Ken Moody, Worth Calfee, Bruce Howard and Steve Horner recorded a 218-222—440 to win the Championship by one stroke over Lago Mar Country Club. Playing at the Slammer & Squire course, Calfee fired a one over par 73, Moody shot a 74 and Howard had a 75 to finish the final round with a score of 222. In the first round, Moody shot the low round of the team, two under par 70 and Calfee and Howard each shot 74 at the King & Bear course. In this Championship, the total of the low three of the four gross scores count for each round. Moody, Calfee and Horner were all members of the winning team at last year’s Championship, also at the World Golf Village. Playing on the team for the first time this year, Bruce Howard, says, “I am happy with how I hit the ball this tournament and am very proud to be part of the winning team.” Ponte Vedra Inn & Club won the inaugural Club Team Championship in 1941 and also repeated again the following year in 1942.

Lago Mar Country Club “A” team finished the Championship in second place shooting a two-day total of 441. Craig Stevens led the team firing a 69 at Slammer & Squire on the final day. Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club jumped into third place after a two-day total of 451. Max Castro shot a 75 with a double eagle on the eighth hole at the Slammer and Squire course.

The Club Team Championship featured 47 teams across the state representing their golf club. Teams of four played 36 holes of stroke play, 18 holes each at Slammer & Squire and King & Bear. The total of the low three of the four gross scores counted in each round.
