Capital City Captures Northwest Club Challenge

Capital City Country Club captured the regular division of the Northwest Club Challenge as Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club won the senior division at Camp Creek Golf Club in WaterSound on October 22-23, 2005.

Three Tallahassee teams took first, second and third place in the regular division of the Northwest Club Challenge. Capital City Country Club recorded scores of 231-232—463 to win the regular division by 18 strokes. Michael Grant led Capital City shooting 76-77—153. Robert Lasko fired a pair of 77’s, Marcus Beck shot similar 78’s and Dick Whitmire posted 81-84 to lead Capital City to victory. Southwood Golf Club claimed second place with scores of 242-239—481. Sam Clunan fired a 74 in the first round and 76 in the second round for a 150 total. Bob Hinkle and Darin Bentz also contributed to Southwood’s second place finish. Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club, last year’s Champions, secured third place by one stroke over Shalimar Pointe Country Club in Shalimar. Golden Eagle posted 243-246—489 while Shalimar Pointe finished with a 239-251—490.

In the senior division, Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club in Santa Rosa Beach won the division by one stroke with a tournament total of 487. Santa Rosa edged out Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto and Bluewater Bay Resort in Niceville for the victory. Santa Rosa and Black Diamond Ranch shared the lead after the first round with a 238. In the second round, Santa Rosa shot 249 while Black Diamond Ranch recorded 250 to fall to second place. Bluewater Bay jumped into contention with the team’s second round score of 246. Combined with a first round 242, Bluewater Bay took a share of second place.  

This State Championship is open to all amateurs in Florida and all four team members must be members of the same club. This is a 36-hole stoke play event with the best three of four scores counted each round. This is the first year for both a regular and senior division.
