Juniors Advance Thru US Open Qualifying

May 18, 2012

Playing in a US Open or US Women's Open is a dream nearly all golfers share. Each year, many juniors throughout Florida attempt to make their dream come true by competing in qualifiers for the Opens. So far, one girl has advanced to the US Women's Open, while four boys advanced to sectional qualifying for the US Open.

It took a playoff at the US Women's Open Sectional Qualifier in Ormond Beach for Jaye Marie Green to earn her spot into the Women's Open at Blackwolf Run in Kohler Wisconsin. After 36 holes,Green was tied with two other players, including fellow Florida junior Shannon Aubert, with two qualiying spots remaining. The ladies went into a playoff and after the first hole one player was eliminated, leaving only Green and Aubert. Green and fellow Florida junior, Shannon Aubert, headed off the second playoff hole. They tied the second and third playoff holes and then on the fourth hole an approach shot by Aubert plugged into a greenside bunker ending her chances. A short par putt secured Green's spot into the 2012 US Women's Open.
