Mixed Shoot-Out - CANCELED

Vero Beach Country Club - Vero Beach

October 8-9, 2016

$320 per team

The Mixed Shoot-Out is heading to beautiful Vero Beach Country Club this year! The distinct change in character of each hole at VBCC will offer a unique challenge to golfers of all abilities in what is one of the most enjoyable events on our tournament schedule. The Mixed Shoot-Out doesn't only "mix-up" the teams with one man and one woman, but it includes three different forms of play in its 36 holes of golf. Gift certificates will be awarded to the best gross and net scores for each format of play, as well as the overall total for the championship! This year, all teams will be playing from the same set of tees, but each team will be pre-flighted to make the competition as fair as possible (more information on flights below). We cannot wait to see you at The Mixed Shoot-Out!

  • Maximum of 48 teams; 96 players
  • Saturday: 9 holes of scramble format and 9 holes of modified alternate shot (Chapman format)

Divisions and Approximate Yardages

All players (regardless of flight) will be playing from the following approximate yardages:

  • Men - 6,300 yards (Gross & Net)
  • Women - 5,300 yards (Gross & Net)

Pre-Tournament Flighting

  • Teams will be pre-flighted before the event begins by using 60% of the lowest partner's course handicap combined with 40% of the higher partner's course handicap.
  • The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the spread of handicaps.

Handicaps

The handicap revision of September 15, 2016 will be used to establish course handicaps.

The tournament will use the USGA's recommendation of:

Saturday (Scramble Format)

  • The player with the lower Course Handicap is allowed 35 percent of his Course Handicap

  • The player with the higher Course Handicap is allowed 15 percent of his Course Handicap.

Saturday (Modified Alternate Shot/Chapman)

  • The player with the lower Course Handicap is allowed 60 percent of his Course Handicap.
  • The player with the higher Course Handicap is allowed 40 percent of his Course Handicap.

Sunday (Four-Ball Stroke Play)

  • Men receive 90% of their course handicap
  • Women receive 95% of their course handicap
  • If there is a difference of more than eight strokes between the two members of a team, an additional 10% reduction will be applied to the course handicap of each member of the side.

Breaking Ties

The overall Champion will be the team with the lowest total score. In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on a hole designated by the Committee to determine the Champion. All other ties in each flight will be broken by the USGA scorecard match. The last 9 holes will be considered holes 10-18, the last 6 holes will be holes 13-18, the last three holes will be holes 16-18 and the last hole will be hole 18. In the case that players are still tied after the 18th hole, the winner will be determined by lot.

Each flight will pay gross first, then net.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds may be played one week prior to the Championship and after 12:00 PM on the weekend prior on a space available basis. The price for a practice round is $35+ tax per player. Please call (772) 562-2775 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

 Defending Champions

After round one in the Championship Division, the team of Gary Blackwell and Susie Fonde dominated the field. Blackwell and Fonde, of Jacksonville, fired a 30 in scramble format and followed it up with a 34 in modified alternate-shot for a day one eight-under par, 64. The duo carded an impressive six birdies for the day. Blackwell and Fonde went wire-to-wire and fired a final round 73 for a tournament total 137 and a five-stroke victory in the Championship Division. The Forward Division also crowned a wire-to-wire Champion with David and Nora Faller capturing first place by four-strokes. For a look at the 2015 Championship Results click here.
