Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship

Dull goes wire-to-wire to capture first FSGA Championship & clinch Player of The Year Honors!

Marc Dull entered the final round with a six-stroke lead over a pack of four players and was just eighteen holes away from capturing his first FSGA Championship and locking up FSGA Amateur Player of the Year Honors after starting the tournament as the current points leader.

On the front-nine, Dull would be on cruise control, making two birdies and no bogeys to get to nine under par for the championship, and keep his lead at six strokes. However, Dull would find some trouble on the back-nine, making a bogey on the par 4, 10th, and then a double-bogey on the 243 yard, par 3, 12th, he would fall back to just -6 for the championship. He would birdie the 14th, just to give it back on the challenging par 3, 15th.

A few groups ahead, Chip Brooke (2016 FSGA Mid-Amateur Champion and Dull's Four-Ball partner who he advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 USGA Four-Ball Championship with), would fire 66 (-6) that would include two eagles, four birdies and two bogies, to post five under par for the championship.

On the 18th hole, Dull came to the tee knowing he needed to make par on the difficult, but short par 5, 18th. After steering his drive into the right rough, well away from the water hazard on the left, Dull would lay up to 140 yards. His approach shot would end up about 25 feet below the hole on the fringe of the green. Dull would roll up the birdie putt to 18 inches, and tap in to seal his victory.

Two-time Champion, Joe Alfieri would be the only other competitor to finish under par for the weekend, with a closing 71, (70-73-71--214, -2) to finish third. 2015 Mid-Amateur Champion, T J Shuart would fourth at even par, while Joey Latowski and Glenn Przybylski would round out the top five at 218 (+2) and tied for fifth.
