Miles McConnell | Doug LaCrosse | Joe Shaktman |
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Winter Series traveled to Laurel Oak Country Club where players competed in the Stableford format. Miles McConnell took home the Mid-Amateur division, while Joe Shaktman and Doug LaCrosse took down the Senior and Super-Senior divisions, respectively.
Mid Amateur
Miles McConnell captured his second Winter Series victory of the 2019-2020 season after two rounds of over 40 points giving him a two day total of 83. McConnell totaled seven birdies over the two days and racked up a ton of pars to give him a two-point victory over second place, Jamie Girardi. With his win, McConnell now sits atop the points list at the mid-way point of the Winter Series season.
Senior
Joe Shaktman's stellar opening round gave him enough of a lead to hold off the rest of the field in Tuesday's final round. At the turn of his opening round, Shaktman had 17 points and had yet to make a birdie. Nine holes later, Shaktman sat atop the leaderboard with 47 points, seven points clear of the field after a six birdie, 30 point back nine. His 31 points in the final round were enough for a one-point victory at 78 total points. Doug Jones put pressure on Shaktman in Round 2 with 38 points, but came up just short with 77 points.
Super-Senior
Doug LaCrosse finished with 79 points to give him a four point victory, and his first Winter Series win of the season. LaCrosse's 79 point total included a 4 birdie, 43 point opening round. He then followed it up with a solid 36-point final round to finish four ahead of second place finisher, Jim Flagg. LaCrosse, the 2018-19 Winter Series Super-Senior points champion, again sits atop this season's points list.
