H. Mallory Privett Jr.

1936 – 2015

Mallory Privett passed away Saturday, December 26th in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mallory was President of the Florida State Golf Association from 2002-2003 and is a member of the FSGA Hall of Fame. In November of 2015, Mallory was awarded the FSGA’s highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, at the association’s Annual Dinner with more than 300 people present.

Mallory was an amazing contributor to the game of golf. He served as a Rules Official for the FSGA and USGA and conducted hundreds of competitions that qualified players to advance to State and National Championships. Mallory was a member of the United States Golf Association’s Senior Amateur Committee, and officiated at the highest levels including the United States Open and Senior Open Championships. In addition to officiating, Mallory was an expert course rater and trained dozens of volunteers in the discipline of rating and measuring golf courses. Mallory also served as Overall Volunteer Chairmen for 21 professional tour events and in that capacity coordinated and organized the efforts of thousands of volunteers.

Mallory was a kind and generous gentleman. Trained as an engineer, and having worked at Pratt Whitney for more than thirty years, Mallory was exceptional at developing systems to organize and conduct golf tournaments. His kind, un-assuming manner attracted hundreds of people who joined him in volunteer service to golf. Mallory was incredibly professional in how he handled events, and was highly respected by players, rules officials and club officials throughout the country. The game of golf has lost a dear friend and one of its greatest and most capable supporters.
