Women's Four-Ball Champions

August 5, 2012

The defending champion team of Wendy Golden and Ericka Schneider fired a seven-under par 65 to win the Florida State Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, on August 4-5.

Wendy Golden and Erika Schneider, of Bradenton, posted a tournament total of ten-under par 134 to win the Championship. After a first round of three-under par 69, the duo trailed the first round leaders, Alexandra Milam, of Lutz, and Kaitlyn Price, of Jacksonville, by three strokes heading into the final round. In the final round, the duo was down by four strokes after hole 13 and then came back by birding the last five holes to win the tournament by one stroke.

Ericka Schneider, the 2012 Women’s Stroke Play Champion, will be a senior at Ole Miss this fall while Wendi Golden currently stands as the Executive Director of the Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association. The championship served as a warm up for Golden and Schneider, as they will be participating again as Four-Ball partners at the 2012 Inaugural Southeastern Challenge Matches, August 13-14.

In the Field Division First Flight, it was Kim Balaskiewicz and Shan Giordano’s consistent play that scored them the title with a tournament total of one-over par 145. The duo shot even par the first round and then only one-over par the second round. The team of Kerstin Koenig and Jennie Taylor won the Field Division Second Flight firing rounds of 84-81--165, while there was a three-way tie for second place.

The Florida State Women’s Four-Ball Championship was held at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on the South course. The tournament was 36 holes of gross Four-Ball Stroke Play and consisted of a Championship and Field Division. Teams with a combined USGA GHIN Handicap Index of 10.0 or lower played in the Championship Division while teams with a combined handicap index greater than 10.0 selected which division they wish to compete in upon entry.
