First-Time FJT Winners at Cypress Lake

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Two first-time Florida Junior Tour winners were crowned at Cypress Lake Golf Club. Beni Long and Sabree Lefebvre were victorious on Sunday in Fort Myers. Long survived a playoff to come out on top in the Boys 13-15 Division, while Lefebvre captured the 13-stroke victory in the Girls 13-15 Division.

Boys 13-15 Division

Long took home the victory in the Boys 13-15 Division, capturing the win with a birdie on the second-playoff hole. After Saturday’s first round, Long sat six shots behind the leaders at 1-over 73.

The Lakewood Ranch native got off to a solid start in the final round, carding a bogey-free front nine. He continued his strong play on the back side, birdieing two of his first four holes to start the back nine. Long added back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th to move to 3 under. He birdied the 18th to finish the day in a tie for first with Juleon Habib at 4-under 140.

The two players made a par on the first-playoff hole. Long birdied the second-playoff hole to secure the win. His final-round 67 was the low round of the day. Habib finished runner up, finishing the weekend with a 69-71, the only player in the field to shot two under-par rounds.

Alex Long finished third at 3-under 141, while Shawn Coultoff and Noah Kent took home a fourth-place finish at 1-under 143.

Girls 13-15 Division

Lefebvre dominated in the Girls 13-15 Division to pick up her first FJT win, finishing the weekend at 3-under 141. The Riverview native took the 18-hole lead with a first-round 68, the only under-par round of the weekend for the Girls Division. She started the first round with a bogey-free front nine, posting four birdies. Lefebvre finished the day with an even-pat back nine to finish the first round with a six-shot lead over the field.

In Sunday’s final round, Lefebvre carded four-straight pars to start the day, finishing the front nine at 2 over. She finished the day with back-to-back birdies to post a final-round 73 and earn the 13-shot victory.

Jamie Lowry and Mei Chan tied for second at 10-over 154. Gabriella DeGasperis took home fourth place at 11-over 155. Three players in the Girls Division carded aces this weekend at Cypress Lake GC: Chan (13th hole), Alayna Friedt (fourth hole) and Staci Pla (15th hole).
