Smith and Fischer Win at The Florida Club

December 12, 2021

Camden Smith | Jordan Fischer

STUART. Fla. – Camden Smith and Jordan Fischer triumphed over some of the top Florida Junior Tour players at the Exempt Only FJT at The Florida Club. Both players would post under par rounds in each of the two rounds for a total of 137 and 138, respectively.

Boys (13-18)

In round one, benign conditions saw 15 of the 54-man field in the Boys (13-18) Division post red numbers. Leading the way was a pair of 67s by Camden Smith and Jack Snedaker. Both players took advantage of the front nine at The Florida Club with Smith carding five birdies to no bogeys in route to a 31 while Snedaker’s 33 left him in a great position going into the back nine. The pair would have a two shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round, as they each would try to capture their first FJT victory of 2021.

In the opening stages of the final round the two leaders would go opposite directions. Smith would birdie two of his first five holes while Snedaker would bogey two of the first three holes. Snedaker would be unfazed however; going on a stretch of three birdies in seven holes as the group made it towards the closing stretch. Smith’s bogey on the par-5 8th hole would open the door for not only Snedaker but also the surging Nashawn Tyson. Playing in his hometown, Tyson would scream up the leaderboard with five birdies in six holes in the middle of the final round.

However, Smith would take control with birdies on the 11th and 12th holes to give him a two-shot lead. Despite a bogey on the final hole of the event, Smith would do enough to claim the Boys (13-18) Division with a two-day total of 7-under 137. The round of the day was enough to vault Tyson up into a tie for second place with Snedaker one shot back of Smith at 6-under for the event. The victory for Smith would be his first FJT victory since the 2020 FJT at Eagle Creek where he won both times the event was conducted at Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club in 2020.

Girls (13-18)

On Saturday the 2021 Girls’ Junior Champion, Jordan Fischer, would pick up right where she left off at the past week’s FJT at Indian Spring. Five birdies in her opening round would allow Fischer to card the only under par round of the day in the Girls (13-18) Division to the tune of a 3-under 69. Skylee Shin would sit in second place after 18 holes with a very steady round of even-par 72 that saw just one birdie to one bogey.

No stranger to overnight leads, Fischer would continue to control the event. Two birdies in her first three holes would extend her lead to five shots through four holes in the second round. Starting the day in a tie for third, Gabriella Albert would get off to a hot start on Sunday. Albert would tie the round of the day in the Girls Division with a 3-under 69. Though that would not be enough to track down Fischer as she would also post 3-under 69. Fischer would finish with a two-day total of 138 for a three shot victory over Albert. The victory would be Jordan Fischer’s second straight and fourth in her last five Florida Junior Tour events.
