Five Things to Know: Women’s Senior Amateur

April 21, 2022

TAMPA, Fla. – The top senior women amateurs in the state will head to Naples next week for the Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, which begins on Monday at Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club.

Here are five things to know before the championship begins.

Defending the Crown

Kim Keyer-Scott will look to go back-to-back after capturing the Women’s Senior Amateur title at the 2021 championship. The Bonita Springs native posted rounds of 72-73-77 at St. Johns Golf & Country Club to secure the one-shot victory. Cohn will look to become the fifth player in FSGA history to win two-straight Women’s Senior titles.

Super-Senior Champion Back for More

Christine Hunt took home her third Women’s Super-Senior title at last year’s championship. The Ponte Vedra Beach native earned the three-shot win with rounds of 81-79. It was her third Super-Senior victory in four years and her second-straight victory.

Eagle Creek Plays Host

Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club will host its first Women’s Senior Amateur Championship and its seventh FSGA championship. A Larry Packard-designed course, Eagle Creek went through a renovation in 2017, led by Gordon Lewis.

Past Champions in the Field

The 2022 field includes past five Senior Amateur champions (Brower, Susan Cohn, Keyer-Scott, Diane Lang and Mary Jane Hiestand) and four past Super-Senior champions (Patricia Hughes-Gelardi, Hunt and Janice Wilson).

Hiestand is a four-time Women’s Senior champion, while Lang has picked up three victories at the Women’s Senior.

Hall of Famer in the Hunt

FSGA Hall of Fame member, Taffy Brower, has her eye on her first Super-Senior Amateur win. Brower is a 10-time FSGA champion and was the 2004 Women’s Amateur Player of the Year. The Boynton Beach native has also competed in over 40 USGA championships.
