Zhou and Deng Capture Win at Santa Lucia

Port Saint Lucie, Fla. – Darren Zhou and Aphrodite Deng captured victories on Sunday at Santa Lucia River Club in Port Saint Lucie. Zhou collected his fourth Florida Junior Tour win, but this was a first for Deng as she was able to close out a wire-to-wire win on Sunday.

Boys Division

The sun was shining bright which brought warm temperatures for the first round on Saturday. It was a breezy day but that did not stop the low scores from coming in. The leaderboard was tight with Junzhe Wang and Wylie Inman sharing the lead firing a two-under par, 70. Wang and Inman both carded three birdies and only one bogey to hold the lead by one stroke over Darren Zhou. Zhou carded a round of 71 with six birdies hoping to make a move into first place on Sunday. In addition, Zachary Phan headed into the final round at only two strokes off of the lead after a first round of even-par, 72. 

The final round once again brought warm sunshine with gusty winds. The leaderboard remained tight all the way until the finish, but it was Darren Zhou who ultimately captured the win. Zhou carded a final round of 74 and played his last nine holes at two-under par to grab the win by three strokes. Zhou carded eight birdies over 36 holes. Yuma Nemoto also carded a final round of 74 and secured a second place finish. Sol Richmond and Lawson Ford tied for third place with a tournament total of five-over par. 

Girls Division

Aphrodite Deng fired the low round of the day in both divisions carding a three-under par, 69 to hold the Girls Division lead by two strokes through the first round. Krishny Elwin followed close behind firing a one-under par 71 to hold a solo second place heading into the final round.

Deng proved to be consistent over the two days by posting yet another 69 on Sunday to win by nine strokes. She carded the lowest tournament total in both divisions with eight birdies and only two bogeys over 36 holes. Angela Nip and Krishny Elwin tied for second place carding tournament totals of three-over par.
