Five Things to Know: Women’s Interclub

TAMPA, Fla. –  The 2023 Women’s Interclub Championship will head to TPC Treviso Bay on Tuesday with 13 teams battling it out for the Women’s Interclub title. Here are five things to know before the championship begins on Tuesday.

Second Women’s Interclub Season

The 2023 Women’s Interclub matches marked the second women’s interclub season. The interclub matches are a state-wide competition between clubs. One-hundred and twelve teams signed for the 2023 season, that included a six-week regular season, two rounds of playoffs and a state championship.

How We Got Here

This season began with 1,452 golfers competing in 29 divisions over 13 regions. During the regular season, 112 teams played over 50 team matches a week. Four players competed each week in two four-ball matches. Thirty-two teams advanced to the regional playoff, with 13 teams clinching a spot in the state championship.

Defending Champions Look to Repeat

TPC Treviso Bay, who earned the victory at the inaugural championship in 2022, is once again one of the 13 teams competing. They finished the regular season at the top of their division with a 4-2-0 record and advanced to the state championship with a 17-7 win over their TPC Treviso Bay counterparts in the Lee Island 2 Region playoffs.

13 Region Champions

Including TPC Treviso Bay, 12 teams punched their ticket to the state championship by advancing through the regional playoffs.

  • Tampa 1 Region: Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club defeated East Lake Woodland 19-5 in the regional finals to advance.
  • Tampa 2 Region: Pasadena Yacht and Country Club took down Grasslands 17-7 to earn a spot in the state championship.
  • Suncoast Region: Esplanade at Lakewood Ranch took the Suncoast regional title with a 14-10 win over The Oaks Club.
  • Cultural Coast Region: Fiddlesticks Country Club came out on top in the Cultural Coast regional with a 14-10 win over Magnolia Landing Golf & Country Club.  
  • Lee Island Region: Wyndemere earned a 19-5 win over Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch to move on.
  • Lee Island 2: Defending champions, TPC Treviso Bay, defeated their TPC Treviso Bay counterparts 17-7 to advance.
  • Gold Coast Region: Boca Woods secured their spot in the playoffs with a 15-9 win over Biltmore.  
  • Treasure Coast Region: Bear Lakes defeated Mariner Sands 17-7 in the regional finals to advance.
  • Treasure Coast 2 Region: After defeating The Yacht and Country Club 18-6 in the regional finals, Meadowood earned the spot in the playoffs.
  • Space Coast Region: Duran took down Turnbull Bay 19-15 to earn their spot in the championship.
  • First Coast Region: Marsh Creek secured its spot in the state championship after defeating Ponte Vedra Inn, 21-13.
  • Northwest Region:  Ocala Golf Club punched their ticket to the state championship after defeating Citrus National, 19-15.
  • Panhanle Region: Watersound Club defeated Kelly Plantation 14-10 to advance to the state championship.

TPC Treviso Bay to Play Host

TPC Treviso Bay will play host to the Women’s Interclub Championship for the second-straight year. The Naples club is an Arthur Hills design and went through a renovation in 2020, a project that included a renovation all 18 greens. This is the third FSGA championship that Treviso Bay will play host to after the Mixed Shoot-out in 2019 and the inaugural Women’s Interclub Championship in 2022.
