Gazzoli Holds Round 1 Lead at Treviso Bay

July 7, 2023

What Happened

Through 18 holes at the 29th Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship, Alexandra Gazzoli holds a two-shot lead after carding an impressive score of 4-under par, 68. After a hot start during which she birdied three of her first four holes, the Palm Coast native ultimately recorded five birdies on the day and nearly completed her round without a bogey, having just one on the par-5 18th hole.

Kaitlynn Washburn, of Jacksonville, (2-under par, 70) and Kavita Sehmi, of Saint Cloud, (1-under par, 71) were the only other players who will begin the secound round with a score under-par.

What’s Next

The second round of the Women's Amateur Stroke Play will take place on Saturday, July 8th.

Notable

Aayushi Sarkar, of Orlando, had a hole-in-one on the par-3 3rd hole. This was the second ever hole-in-one, and first in tournament play, for the Drake University attendee.

Stetson University graduate Bianca Sol Cruz, of Largo, holed out from the fairway on the par-4 12th hole to record the only other eagle or better on the course today.

Quotable

"Besides one hole I got up-and-down anytime I missed the green, I made a lot of good putts, and I just kept hitting fairways and greens. So, everything was pretty good today." – Alexandra Gazzoli
