Women's Senior Amateur Championship

Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club, Naples, FL

April 24-26, 2023

NAPLES, Fla. - Defending champion, Terrill Samuel, reigned victorious as the Senior Women’s Amateur champion yet again and Marianne Springer captured the victory of the Super-Senior Division on Wednesday at Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club.

Senior Championship Division

The first round brought blue skies and warm temperatures and Susie Keane and Kim Keyer-Scott took the lead early through nine holes at one-under par. The leaderboard was tight with seven players only one stroke behind the leaders at even par after nine holes. However, Kim Keyer-Scott stayed consistent on the back nine carding a (-1) for the first round and holding the solo lead two strokes ahead of Susie Keane and Terrill Samuel. Keyer-Scott explained that she simply wanted to aim for the center of the greens to give herself birdie opportunities.

While rain loomed in the morning, Tuesday brought more pretty weather. The second round remained tight as defending champion, Terrill Samuel, made a move into first place after carding a round of two-under par, 70. Samuel carded four birdies over the 18 holes and held the lead by four strokes heading into the final round. When asked about the golf course Samuel said, “I love this golf course. I am so happy to be back. The course is so well laid out. Each hole is different and it is easy to remember every hole because each one has its own design.” At the end of the second round, Kim Keyer-Scott and Therese Quinn held second and third place respectively.

After two great days of golf, the final round did not disappoint. Three fantastic players made up the final pairing of Terrill Samuel, Kim Keyer-Scott, and Therese Quinn. Ultimately Terrill Samuel outlasted the field by three to capture her second consecutive Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Samuel posted a tournament total of four-over par, 220. In addition, Susan Cohn made a move up the leaderboard to finish in second place after shooting a final round of two-over par, 74 with a tournament total of seven-over par, 223. Other notable rounds included Anna Schultz who posted the low round of the day with a three-under par, 69. Schultz final round moved her into a share of third place with Therese Quinn.

Super-Senior Championship Division

The Super-Senior Division had their first round of play on Tuesday and played 36 holes over two days which concluded with Marianne Springer being crowned champion. Kathy Malpass had the early lead through nine holes during the first round. She made the turn at even par with Felicia Hutnick only one stroke back. Hutnick delivered a solid round and carded a two-over par, 74 to hold the first-round lead by two strokes. Marianne Springer and Sandie St. Onge shared second place both posting rounds of four-over par, 76. Springer started out hot in the final round, firing a two-under par 34 to take an early lead. She held onto that lead with a steady even par on her final nine to post a final round of 70 and a tournament total of two-over par, 146. The Field Divisions will be pre-flighted based on individual handicaps.

Generally, divisions of more than 14 individuals will be pre-flighted, however the Committee reserves the right to flight based on the number of individuals and/or the range of combined individual handicaps or scores.

Breaking Ties

Championship Division – The overall Senior and Super-Senior Champions will be the individuals from their respective Championship Division with the lowest total score. In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on a hole designated by the Committee to determine the Champions.

Other Divisions – All ties in each flight of the Field Divisions will be broken by the USGA scorecard match. The last 9 holes will be considered holes 10-18, the last 6 holes will be holes 13-18, the last 3 holes will be holes 16-18 and the last hole will be hole 18. In the case that players are still tied after the 18th hole, the winner will be determined by lot.

Field Divisions will pay gross first, then net.
