BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Anthony Amoroso and Ryleigh Knaub raised the trophy at the third Florida Junior Tour Pam McCloskey-Brosnihan Open on Sunday at The Club at Quail Ridge. Amoroso was victorious in the Boys 16-18 Division, and Knaub took home the win in the Girls 16-18 Division.
This is the first FJT win for Amoroso and the second FJT victory for Knaub.
The FJT Pam McCloskey-Brosnihan tournament is held each year to honor the former Quail Ridge Head Golf Professional, Pam McCloskey-Brosnihan, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 51 from cancer. Her memory is honored each year with a FJT event and the FSGA offers a scholarship in her name to a local junior who demonstrates determination, drive and passion for the great game of golf.
Boys 16-18 Division
Amoroso captured his first FJT victory at 4-under 140 on Sunday at Quail Ridge. The Miami native sat in a four-way tie for first place at 1-under 71 after Saturday’s first round. Amoroso got off to a hot start in the final round, posting a bogey-free front nine with a birdie.
He continued his strong play on the back side, birdieing two of the first four holes, while adding another birdie on the 16th to move to 5 under for the tournament.
Heading to the 18th hole, he held a two-shot lead over Cooper Tate and Antonio Rios. Amoroso missed his 6-foot par putt to finish the hole with a bogey and leave Tate with a three-foot birdie putt to force a playoff. Tate missed his birdie putt to secure the one-shot victory for Amoroso.
Tate finished the tournament in a tie for second with Rios at 3-under 141, while Guoao (Leo) Xu took fourth place at 2-under 142.
Amoroso’s final-round 69 was tied for low round of the day with Davis Dickinson. Amoroso, Tate and Rios were the only three players to post two under-par rounds for the tournament.
Girls 16-18 Division
Knaub went wire-to-wire to pick up her first FJT of the season with a 2-over 146 in Boynton Beach. She posted a 1-over 73 to take the first-round lead after Saturday. After a bogey on the 11th hole to start the final round, Knaub rebounded with a birdie on the 13th and played the rest of her first nine bogey free to make the turn at even par for the day.
The Winter Springs native pulled within one shot of the leader, Tori Mouton, with a birdie on the eighth. Knaub made a par on the final hole of the tournament to finish with a final-round 73. Mouton finished with a double bogey to secure the one-shot victory for Knaub.
Mouton finished second at 3-over 147, while Sophia Louis took home a third-place finish at 5-over 149.
