2022 Amateur Championship Sites Announced

December 9, 2021

TAMPA, Fla. – The Bear’s Club, in Jupiter, will be the host site for the 105th Amateur Championship, while Streamsong Resort, in Streamsong, will be the host for the 93rd Women’s Amateur Championship.

The Amateur Championship will be contested on June 23-26, 2022, with the Women’s Amateur Championship being played on June 15-19, 2022.

105th Amateur Championship

The Bear's Club, designed by 18-time major champion, Jack Nicklaus, is nestled among 369 sandy acres near the Atlantic Ocean. Opened in 1999, Nicklaus transformed the native environment into a championship layout that features 102 strategically placed bunkers, many of which are steeply flashed.

The design was inspired by the bunkers at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia, which Nicklaus visited when he captained the 1998 United States Presidents Cup team.

The Bear’s Club is set to host its third Amateur Championship, the first since 2017 when Cristian DiMarco was crowned the champion at the 100th Amateur . The Jupiter course most recently played host to the 2020 U.S. Open Final Qualifying.

Lost Tree Golf Club is set to be the companion course for the 105th Amateur Championship for the first and second round. The 18-hole championship layout was originally designed by Mark Mahannah Sr. in 1961 before being updated by the team at Jack Nicklaus Design in 2002.

The Amateur Championship has a rich history dating back to 1913 with A.C. Ulmer winning the first of his four titles. Other past champions include: Carl Dann Jr. (five-time champion), Don Bisplinghoff (four-time champion), Bob Murphy, Doug Sanders, Gary Koch, Jerry Pate, Buddy Alexander and Blayne Barber.

Fred Biondi rolled in a 40-foot putt on the 71st hole of the 2021 Amateur Championship to be crowned the 104th Amateur champion at Streamsong Resort last year. He became just the eighth player to win both the Amateur and Boys’ Junior Championships.

93rd Women’s Amateur Championship

Opened in 2013, Streamsong Resort features three 18-hole courses, Streamsong Blue, Streamsong Red and Streamsong Black. Both the Blue and Red courses will be in use for the 93rd Women’s Amateur Championship, with the Blue course serving as the primary course

The Red and Blue courses were first on the property and were a unique collaboration between some of the brightest and most respected minds in golf architecture.  Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw designed the Red, while Tom Doak designed the Blue. However, they were given the same property to work with, so the two courses weave between one another throughout the 18 holes.

The resort opened seven years ago, but its origin goes much further back.  Streamsong’s developer, The Mosaic Company, has owned the 16,000 acres that Streamsong operates for more than 50 years and mined the land for phosphates in the 1960s.

Streamsong has been host to a number of FSGA championships, most recently the 104th Amateur Championship. The resort recently played host to the 2020 Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship and the Four-Ball Championship.

The Women's Amateur Championship is the oldest and most prestigious event on the Women's Championship schedule. Past Champions include the names of Alice Dye, Tammy Bowman, Cristie Kerr, Meghan Stasi, Taffy Brower and other notables.

Kendall Griffin raised the 2021 Women’s Amateur trophy last year at Hammock Dunes Club. Griffin took down Elle Nachmann, 2 and 1, in the final match to secure victory. She became a three-time FSGA champion with this Women’s Amateur victory, having captured the Girls’ Junior title in 2013 and the Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2019.

Entries open for next year’s Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championship on January 12 at 8 a.m.
