Level II and III Volunteer Training
General Information - Level II and Level III Training Workshops
In addition to the on-the-job training that all our officials receive, the FSGA conducts two levels of two-day interactive workshops to assist new and active FSGA tournament volunteers in Rules Training and Officiating techniques.
- Open to new and active FSGA volunteers only - not open to the general public. Please see eligibility guidelines below.
- Two-day workshops
- 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM day one and 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM day two
- Optional 80 question USGA rules test after lunch on day two
- Both indoor and outdoor classroom settings
- Small class sizes (4-10)
- Lunch included both days
- Dinner after the first day included
- Free! - No cost to attend
Level II - Officiating Techniques & Common rulings
Purpose & Content
- New Volunteers - to review the jobs and tasks performed by officials so that you will be comfortable when working events
- Active Volunteer Officials - to reinforce the proper methods used in officiating and to reinforce the most common Rules that we encounter as officials - a great refresher!
- Content of Workshop
- 60% officiating responsibilities and methods (jobs officials perform)
- 40% most commonly encountered Rules of Golf
Requirements
- Open to active FSGA Tournament Volunteers (Certified Rules, Senior Rules or non-certified officials)
- New Volunteers - Must have attended at least one tournament day of an FSGA administered event (a ride-along day counts)
- Highly recommended for all first-year volunteers and for all officials at least once every four years
Class Details
- Day-One - Officiating - Emphasis on volunteer functions and exercises on the core duties of tournament officials; radio usage, registration, starting, course set-up, pace of play checkpoints, officiating and scoring
- Day-Two - Most Common Rulings - Emphasis on the most frequently encountered relief procedures; penalty areas, abnormal course conditions, obstructions, temporary water, unplayable balls, dropping etc.
Level III- Advanced Rules
Purpose and Content
- Workshop covers advanced Rules situations in an on-course setting
- Relief procedures and complex situations emphasized
- Content of Workshop
- 20% officiating technique and approach
- 80% Rules of Golf
Requirements
- Open to all active FSGA Tournament Volunteers (Certified Rules, Senior Rules, or non-certified officials)
- Non-Certified officials must have attended a Level II workshop within the current or previous two calendar years
Class Details
- Days 1 & 2 - Advanced Rules - Both days will focus on a comprehensive review of the Rules of Golf and their related applications in Tournament Administration
