Three Capture Season-Ending Winter Series Win

VALRICO, Fla. – Three players captured season-ending victories, as the 2021-22 Winter Series season wrapped up on Tuesday at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country. Troy Vannucci took home the win the Mid-Amateur Division, while Doug Jones was victorious in the Senior Division and Kevin Macy captured the Super-Senior title. 

With the Winter Series season coming to a close, Vannucci, Jones and Doug LaCrosse were named the Winter Series Points Champions. LaCrosse earned the title for the fourth-straight season, while Jones picked up the honor for second time. Vannucci earned his first Points Champion title after moving up three spots with his victory.

Mid-Amateur                 

Vannucci used a 5-under 139 to earn the win the Mid-Amateur Division. He opened the tournament with an even-par 72, finishing the day with five birdies, to sit one shot back of the first-round leader, Joe Alfieri.

Getting off to a quick start in the final round, Vannucci birdied back-to-back holes on the second and third. He kept it rolling, birdieing three of four holes to close out the front side and take the lead. The Palm Coast resident added back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th and secured the victory with a final-round 67.

His 5-under 67 in the final round was the low round of the event. Joe Alfieri took second place at 3-under 141 after a final-round 70, while Tiger Godwin finished third at even-par 144.

Senior

Jones captured the win in the Senior Division, posting a 2-over 146 for the week. The Brandon native carded a 1-over 73 in Monday’s first round to sit one shot back of the leader, Steve Riviere.

Starting on the sixth hole, Jones began the day with a birdie and added two more on the 14th and the second. His final-round 73 gave him the victory in the Senior division.

Riviere finished the week with a final-round 76 to take home a share of second-place finish at 4-over 148. Brian King used the low round in the Senior Division (2-under 70) to finish in a tie for second with Riviere.

Super-Senior

Macy carded a final-round 70 to pick up the win in the Super-Senior Division, securing the one-shot victory with a 1-under 143. After finishing the first-round with a 1-over 73, the Tampa resident finished the final day with five birdies to come back and get the win.

Three players finished the week in a tie for second at even-par 144: Pete McDade, Bill Moore and Robert Cunningham.
