Great Sites Set For Mid-Amateur Events

April 11, 2013

With The Masters getting underway this week it's that time of year to get your game into shape for the 2013 season. In 2013, both men and women Mid-Amateur players (25 years and older) have a number of great site available to them.

The Mid-Amateur Stroke Play is being conducted May 3-5 at Vero Beach Country Club.  This Championship does not require qualifying, and entries are accepted on a first come first serve basis.  Competitors can use this Championship for a road trip with the guys or weekend away with the family.  Vero Beach CC is a first-class facility that is always in immaculate condition.  The club is minutes from the beach and the area boasts many great restaurants and hotels-many of which are right on the beach!

The Inaugural Women's Mid-Amateur Championship is being run May 4-5 at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach.  Ladies can use this as a fun girls' weekend opportunity before the weather gets too hot, and also have some great competition on the course!  Three divisions are offered for competitors to select which yardage they would like to play from.

Then in early June there are a couple of fun Four-Ball Championships, one held in the North part of the state at Sugar Mill Country Club, in New Smyrna Beach, and one held in the South part of the State at Riverwood Golf Club, in Port Charlotte.  The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball is a perfect opportunity for a golfing road trip with a buddy.  Two days of four-ball, flighted after day one, makes for an enjoyable and competitive golfing environment.

Finally, the FSGA Season ends with our Mid-Amateur Championship.  Mountain Lake Golf Course in Lake Wales (pictured right) is set to host this year's Championship. Mountain Lake is one of Florida's best kept secret and is the definition of a hidden gem. The course design is most enjoyed by golf purists with a number of holes inspired by classic courses in England, including the Biarritz, the Redan, the Alps, Punchbowl, bunker shapes from St Andrews, etc., quite an amazing golf course overall. This facility is very private, with a rich golf history, and was ranked 69th classic golf courses in the country in 2012.  Players will have to try and qualify for this Championship at one of 7 local sites.
