NAPLES, Fla. – It was another exciting day at Vanderbilt Country Club for the second round of the Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship. After moving day wrapped up, Pimpisa Sisutham and Sophia Dyer sat tied atop the leaderboard at 10-under par.
What Happened
Pimpisa Sisutham began her round with a one-shot lead over future Florida Gator Sophia Dyer. She wasted no time extending that lead, making a birdie on the opening hole to create a more comfortable cushion. Sisutham then went into cruise control, playing the rest of her front nine at 2-under par. She hit an approach shot to three feet on the 4th hole, drained the putt for birdie, and then repeated the feat on the 5th. She made the turn at 3-under par.
Heading into the back nine, Sisutham continued to play lights-out. She quickly made birdies on holes 10 and 11 to stretch her lead over Dyer to three shots. However, a bogey on 14 would spoil her otherwise perfect round. From there, Sisutham made par on her final four holes to shoot 68 (-4) and finish the day at 10-under total.
Sophia Dyer, however, would not go down without a fight. The 2024 Women’s Amateur Champion played flawless golf throughout her round. Despite a slow start on her first four holes, she carded back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5 to head into the back nine at 2-under par. Dyer then made birdie on the par-5 11th, but a string of pars kept her two shots behind Sisutham. Heading into the 17th hole, Dyer needed to be perfect, and she was, making birdie on her final two holes to tie Sisutham at the last moment. It was a perfect finish en route to a 67 (-5) for Dyer.
