Hock Takes 36-Hole Lead at FL Open

Tyler Hock will take a two shot lead heading into the final round of the 68th Florida Open Championship at The Bonita Bay Club in Naples. The final round will get underway on Sunday at 8:00 AM on the Cypress Course.

After 36-holes Tyler Hock, of Ocala, posted a total of 8-under par 136 to take the overnight lead in the 68th Florida Open Championship. Opening up the Championship on the Bay Island Course, Hock would post a two-under par round of 70. Entering Saturday, Hock would trail the first round leader by four shots.  Playing the Cypress Course in round two, Hock would get off to a solid start playing his first nine holes in one-under par. After pars on 10 and 11, Hock’s putter got hot, making an impressive five birdies in a row on holes 12-16. After pars on 17 and 18, Hock would post his round of six-under par 66.

Brad Brunner, of Tampa, stands alone in second place with a 36-hole total of 6-under par 138. Brunner opened up with an even par round of 72 on the Bay Island Course, and caught fire on Saturday playing the Cypress Course. Brunner used seven birdies, and an eagle to go with his three bogeys for his round of six-under par 66. Caleb Johnson Jr., of Ocala, is currently in third place after rounds of 68-71. Past Champion, Joe Alfieri, of Lutz, is currently tied for eighth place and is the only amateur competitor in the top 10 of the event. Sixty-four players advanced to the final round with a 36-hole total of four-over par 148.

Started in 1942, The Florida Open Championship has produced past champions that include Willie Turnesa, Bob Murphy, Gary Koch, Bruce Fleisher, John Huston, Dudley Hart, and Bart Bryant.  This is the sixth year the Florida State Golf Association has been conducting this great Championship.
