Mixed Shoot-Out

Plantation Golf & Country Club - Panther Course, Venice, FL

September 30 - October 1

The Mixed Shoot-Out doesn't only "mix-up" the teams with one man and one woman, but it includes three different forms of play in its 36 holes of golf. Gift certificates will be awarded to the best gross and net scores for each format of play, as well as the overall total for the championship!

Venice, Fla. – Forty teams of two took on Plantation Golf and Country Club for the Mixed Shootout Championship. In this unique format, three different formats were played including modified alternate shot, scramble and four-ball.

Plantation Golf and Country Club was a difficult test for the field with a limited amount of scores posted under par, even with formats that scores tend to be lower. Out of bounds and penalty areas lining almost every fairway and undulating greens proved to be a great test of golf.

Championship Division

The team of Jake Johnson and Courtney Johnson got out to a slow start, bogeying the first hole, but two birdies on five and six offset the bogey on one and eventual bogey on nine for a front nine score of even par in the difficult alternate shot format.

They proceeded to shoot four-under par in the scramble side of the round for a first round score of 68, holding a four shot lead over two second place teams.

Steady golf on day two of the championship in the four-ball format gave the team of Johnson and Johnson a four shot victory.

In second place was the team of Tyler Brookman and Cristina McCarthy with scores of 72-71.

Forward Division

In the Forward Division of the championship, no one team ran away with the tournament. The teams of Liann Thompson and William Gariepy and Anna Shulha and Bob Shulha were tied for the lead after first round with an 18 hole score of 70.

Round two featured the team of David Tassell and Kim Tassell posting the lone under par round in the four-ball format with a score of 69. Their round of three-under proved to be enough to overcome the round one leaders to take the victory by three.

In a tie for second place were the teams of Liann Thompson and William Gariepy and and Anna Shuhla and Bob Shulha after sharing a tie for the lead during round one.

(If there is still a tie, the final 9 holes of the last day (holes 10-18) will be used to determine the winner.  If there is still a tie, the final 6 holes are used; then if needed the final 3 holes; then the final hole; then by coin flip).

Each flight will pay gross first, then net.
