Billings & Yoo Achieve Victories

The Florida Junior Tour 13-15 division got the 2016 season back underway in perfect weather and golf course conditions. The first round was filled with impressive golf and many red numbers at the top of the leaderboard. In the Boys’ Division, Tyler Wilkes, of Tampa, took the early lead after posting a five under-par, 67. One stroke behind in second place was Tiaan Mattiace (68), of Jacksonville, and tied for third place after carding 69’s were Peyton Billings, Davis Lee, Grayson Maddox, and Logan Conway. Will Davis, of Jacksonville, had the shot of the day with a hole-in-one on the fourth hole! In the Girls’ Division three tied for the lead with great first round scores of 69 (-3).  Chloe Schiavone, Katie Yoo, and Meiyi Yan were tied for first round lead, one stroke ahead of Karoline Tuttle, in fourth place.

Second round excitement brewed as Peyton Billings fired a seven under-par 65 to chase down Tyler Wilkes who started the day in first place. Peyton had a flawless scorecard with four birdies on the front nine and three birdies on the back nine. Wilkes played steady golf, carding an eagle on the par five 16th hole, to finish his final round at five under-par, for back to back 67’s. Billings and Wilkes ended the second day tied for first with a 134 total (-10). The two boys headed to the 18th hole for the playoff. Both Wilkes and Billings had two pars on the 18th hole before going to the first hole. Peyton Billings ended the playoff with a birdie on number one to achieve his first FJT victory! Davis Lee, of Ponte Vedra Beach, played an exceptional final nine holes including five birdies en route to a 32 and final round 68. With rounds of 69-68—137, Davis Lee claimed third place.

In the Girls’ Division, Katie Yoo, of Windermere, broke the tie for first place by scoring eagles on the par five 3rd hole and par five 11th hole to finish with a second round 69, tournament total 138 (-6). Yoo captured her first FJT win in 2016, winning once in 2015, by one stroke over Erika Smith. Smith, of Orlando, finished in second place after a great second round of 67. Lake Mary resident, Karoline Tuttle, moved into third place with a second round 71 (-1), tournament total 141 (-3).

The Florida Junior Tour 16-18 division will tee it up next week in Boynton Beach at Quail Ridge Country Club, August 20-21.
