Nachmann & Williams Clinch Four-Ball

March 19, 2017

Unlike the wild thunder storms that crashed the 2016 Women's Four-Ball Championship, sunny skies and a cool breeze made for perfect playing conditions for the 2017 Championship. The Women's Four-Ball Championship, hosted by Santa Lucia River Club for the second consecutive year, began Saturday morning with an 8:30 AM shotgun start. Partners Kim Keyer-Scott and Margaret Ference came in firing an impressive four-under par 68 to sit in first place by one stroke over junior duo Elle Nachmann and Dana Williams. The teams of Meghan Stasi/Tara Bolger and Mary Jane Hiestand/Marie Arnoux sat tied for third with a pair of 70's.

Sunday's final round began at 8:30 AM with identical playing conditions and more numbers in the red. The team of Meghan Stasi and younger sister Tara Bolger, kept up their hot streak and posted a one-under par 71 to finish the tournament with a two day total of three-under 141. Keyer-Scott and Ference also played consistently throughout the day, finishing with a 73, but both teams were no match for Nachmann and Williams who continued their red streak by posting a one-under par 71 and capturing the title by one stroke with a four-under par finish at 140. The Women's Four-Ball Championship marks both Nachmann and Williams' first Florida State Golf Association Championship wins. Elle Nachmann will be graduating high school in 2021 and Dana Williams in 2019.

Teammates Debbie O'Brien and Diane Armet were no match for players in the Middle Division, posting the only red number, two-under par 70, on Saturday's round one. The team of Lucy Sievers and Patricia Gelardi stood in solo second with a round one score of 80, while Myra Macmillian and Barbara Pagana would head into the final round in third place with an 82. Round two was not as kind to O'Brien and Armet, but their initial ten stroke lead allowed their second round 78 to lead them to the title in the Middle Division, winning with a two day total of 148. In 2016, O'Brien and Armet captured the title in the Middle Division First Flight. Teammates Sievers and Gelardi held their second place spot finishing with a two day total of 158.

Defending Forward Division Champions, Luanne Zabytko and Anita Venner, captured the title in the Middle Division First Flight by seven strokes with consistent rounds of 79-79-158. Finishing in second place was the team of Liza Porter and Gina Gillman while duo Elise Gordon and Barbara Martin captured third. Teammates Mary Marshall and Mourine White were victorious in the Forward Division, finishing the tournament with a total of 84-90-174.

The Women's Championship schedule heads to Fort Lauderdale Country Club on April 4-5th for the Women's Senior Amateur Championship.
