Seven Birdies Propel Williams into the Lead

August 11, 2012

WEST PALM BEACH – Amateur Pete Williams, of Juno Beach, is at the top of the leader board entering the final round of The Florida Senior Open at Bears Lake Country Club.

Williams’ impressive tournament performance of eight-under-par gives him a three shot lead over Gene Fieger, of Naples, and Chris Campbell, of Vero Beach, who are both tied for second at five-under par.  Williams consistent play on The Links Course during day two consisted of ten pars, seven birdies, and a lone bogey on hole number ten.  Pete’s six-under-par 66, is the low round of the championship thus far. Williams’ will have another chance to dominate tomorrow on the final day of The Florida Senior Open.  All participants who have made the cut at seven-over-par or better will be playing The Lakes Course tomorrow.

In this Championship, all participants played eighteen holes each on the Lakes course and the Links course on Friday, August 10th and Saturday, August 11th. Bear Lakes Country Club is in immaculate condition for the competitors and contains challenges in its fast greens and well-placed bunkers. Bear Lakes has played host to both Florida State Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships, sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open for both men and women as well as the 1995 and 2001 PGA Tour Qualifying Finals.  The field has now been cut to the low sixty and ties. The final eighteen holes will be played on the Lakes course. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a hole by hole play-off immediately following play in event of a tie for first place only.
