VERO BEACH, Fla. – Jessica Porvasnik made her way to the top of the Florida Women’s Open leaderboard on Saturday, while Laurie Rinker held her top spot in the Senior Division.
Both players continued their strong play in the second round to take the 36-hole lead.
Porvasnik carded a 1-under 71 at Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club to move to 3-under 140 for the championship. She started the day off strong with a bogey-free front nine, posting three birdies.
The Ohio native ran into some trouble on the 10th, finishing with a double bogey.
She played the remainder of her second nine at even-par, securing a one-shot lead over the field heading into the final round. Porvasnik was one of only four under-par rounds at Orchid Island on Saturday.
Jessica Welch finished the day in second place, after shooting a 1-over 73 at John’s Island Club. She sits at 2-under 141 for the championship, one shot behind Porvasnik.
Welch made the turn at even-par, carding two birdies and a double bogey. She finished the day with two bogeys and a birdie on her second nine.
Jacqueline Putrino used an even-par 72 at Orchid Island to take solo third place at 1-under 142. The 15-year-old started the day with a 1-under on her front nine, carding three birdies and two bogeys. Putrino finished the day with a 1-over on the front nine to head into the final round two shots back of the leaders.
Celeste Valinho and Nadine White sit in a tie for fourth place at even-par 143. Forty-four players made the cut in the Open Division at 8-over 151.
Rinker fired a 3-under 69 at Orchid Island on Saturday to hold her spot at the top of the Senior Division. She sits at 4-under 139 for the championship and has a three-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.
The Florida native began the day with a bogey-free front nine, carding four birdies. She played the back nine at 1-over to secure a second-round 69, the low round of the day.
Cherly Fox used a 3-under 69 to move into second place at 1-under 142. She carded four birdies on the day, her only bogey coming on the 18th.
Tammie Green holds third place at even-par 143, while Jackie Gallagher-Smith holds fourth place at 2-over 145. Nineteen players made the cut in the Senior Division at 12-over 155.
