Four FJT Alums Invited to ANWA

TAMPA, Fla. – For the second-straight year, Florida Junior Tour alumni will be competing in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Abbey Carlson, Auston Kim, Alexa Pano and Megan Schofill received invitations to play in the 2020 event to be held April 1-4, the week before the Masters Tournament, in Augusta, Ga.

A field of 72 women amateurs will compete over 54 holes of stroke play, with a 36-hole cut to 30 players. The first 36 holes will be contested over two days at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., and the final competitive round will take place at Augusta National Golf Club.

Carlson, Kim and Schofill will compete in the event for the first time, while Pano will make her second trip to Augusta.

Carlson, a senior at Vanderbilt University, captured one win and recorded seven top-five finishes in her FJT career. She was a two-time AJGA Rolex All-American and a first team member in 2013, while also competing in eight USGA championships.

In her junior season, Carlson was named to the First Team All-SEC and to the ANNIKA Award Watch List. The Lake Mary native captured medalist 

honors at the Mason Rudolph Championship, earned two other top-10 finishes and led Vanderbilt to team titles at the UCF Challenge and Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational.

In June, Carlson represented the United States team at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Roland, Arkansas. She was the first Commodore woman to play in the Palmer Cup. 

Kim, who is also a member of the Commodore Women’s Golf team, earned seven top-five finishes and one victory in her FJT career, along with capturing the 12 & Under Florida Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship title in 2012.

The Saint Augustine native qualified for the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open Championship and advanced to match play at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. She also qualified for the 2016 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship.

As a freshman, Kim was named a WGCA honorable mention All-American, as well as named to the All-SEC first team and SEC All-Freshman team. She earned medalist honors at the NCAA Auburn Regional and led the Commodores to their first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2014.

Pano was the named the 2016 FSGA Girls’ Junior Player of the Year, after a season that saw five Florida Junior Tour wins and second-place finishes at the Girls’ Junior Amateur and the Junior Amateur Match Play. She won the Ione Jones/Doherty Championship in 2017 and was the runner-up at the U.S. Girls’ Junior in 2018.

Last year, Pano was named the FSGA Women’s Amateur Player of the Year, becoming the first player in FSGA history to be named both the Girls’ Junior and Women’s Amateur Player of the Year.

The Lake Worth native earned four wins, four USGA Championship appearances and 10 top-10 finishes last season. Pano captured wins at the Ione Jones/Doherty Championship, Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship, Scott Robertson Memorial and the Rolex Girls Junior Championship.

The 14-year-old shared medalist honors with Jiarui Jin at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, and advanced through a playoff to qualify for her first U.S. Women’s Open Championship. She was the youngest competitor in the 156-player field at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

Pano was also the youngest player in the field at last year’s inaugural ANWA.

Schofill, a freshman at Auburn University, collected 11 top-five finishes and one win while competing on the Florida Junior Tour. She won 13 tournament titles in her junior career, including four AJGA victories, while being named a AJGA Rolex First-Team All-American.

Last year, Schofill earned medalist honors at the 90th Florida Women’s Amateur Championship, before advancing to the Round of 16. She also advanced to match play at the Women’s Amateur in 2016 and 2017.

The Monticello native reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, while also making it to the semifinal of the 2019 Women’s Southern Amateur Championship.

The 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2020 U.S. Women's Open, the 2020 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year, provided she remains an amateur.
