TAMPA, Fla. – The top amateurs in the world will head to Oregon for the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship. Thirteen Floridians will be in the all-exempt field at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort when the championship begins on Monday.
Here are some things to know about the Floridians in the field before the championship begins.The championship will begin with 132 players competing in two rounds of stroke play, with 64 players advancing to match play.
- Former University of North Florida teammates, Jordan Batchelor and Michael Mattiace, joined forces to win the 2018 Florida Four-Ball Championship. Batchelor will be competing in his second U.S. Amateur, while Mattiace will being teeing it up for the first time in a U.S. Amateur.
- Andrew Kozan, who will be a senior at Auburn University, is set to compete in his second U.S. Amateur. The West Palm native captured the Florida Amateur Match Play Championship last year.
- Brandon Mancheno, who will be a senior at Auburn University, is a two-time FSGA Junior Player of the Year. The Jacksonille native will be competing in his fourth U.S. Amateur Championship.
- Tyler Strafaci, a senior at Georgia Tech University, will be competing in his fourth U.S. Amateur. The Davie native captured the win at the North and South Amateur Championship in July, 81 years after his grandfather won his second North and South title. Strafaci also added a win at the Palmetto Invitational this summer.
- Tyler Wilkes, the 2018 FSGA Junior Player of the Year, will tee it up in his second U.S. Amateur. The incoming University of Florida freshman is a two-time Florida Boys’ Junior Amateur champion
