Five Things to Know: Four-Ball Championship

August 12, 2020

TAMPA, Fla. –  Streamsong Resort is set to host one of the state’s oldest championships this weekend. The 71st Four-Ball Championship will take center stage on the Black Course at Streamsong on Saturday.

Here are five things to know before the championship begins.

By The Numbers

The average age this year’s Open field is 32 years old. Andrew Siffert will be the youngest competitor in the field at 16 years old, while Rick Woulfe, a 2020 FSGA Hall of Fame inductee, will be the most experienced players in the field at 71 years old.

Over 20 collegiate golfers will be in the field at Streamsong, while seven junior golfers will tee it up in the championship.

Past Champions Look to Repeat

Last year’s champions, Eric Havixbeck and Anthony Scolapio will look to become the first team since 2001 to win back-to-back Four-Ball titles. The Jacksonville natives went wire-to-wire to secure the Four-Ball victory at Pine Tree Golf Club. On the 35th hole of the championship, Scolapio made a key birdie to secure the victory for the LaGrange College teammates.

U.S. Four-Ball Quarterfinalists Team Up again

Jacksonville residents, Devon Hopkins and Matt Kleinrock, advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The duo finished tied for 16th at last year’s championship, while Hopkins went on to be named the FSGA Amateur and Mid-Amateur Player of the Year.

Father-Son Duos

There are two father-son duos in this year’s championship field. Steve Albright, who won the Forty & Over Four-Ball Championship earlier this month with Jimmy Letterly, will team up with his son, Miles, who is a rising junior at Gardner Webb University, this weekend.

Streamsong Set to Host

Streamsong Resort will host its second FSGA championship this year, after playing host to the Boys’ Junior Championship in July.A Gil Hanse design, the Black Course at Streamsong will be playing host to its first Boys’ Junior. The Black Course operates on nearly 300 acres and is fairly notorious for its scale. The championship will prove to be a physical and mental test all weekend long.
